With the widespread availability of high speed internet connections, the number of people working from home has increased rapidly. Some people have conventional full time jobs with large companies which allow them the flexibility to work from home, while others work with companies that specialise in hiring telecommute employees or independent contractors.
Unlike conventional jobs, where an employee is expected to be in office for a fixed number of hours every day, most work at home jobs offer flexible timings for employees. The employee is usually compensated based on the amount and quality of the work done. The work to be done is usually sent by email or can be downloaded from the companies website. When the work is completed, it is uploaded or sent by email again. However, for some work at home jobs like data entry , which is subcontracted to local vendors, a business may drop off and pick up the documents.
The disadvantage of work at home jobs is that there is little control over how the data is used. In many industries, information has to be kept confidential, and since there is little control over how the employee uses the data at his or her home, the work cannot be completed remotely.
